The ThunderChickens get their name from Mel's Polish Eagle tattoo. When people ask what it is, she says "a ThunderChicken". The ThunderChickens are a fabulous, frenetic, kinetic four-piece Rock-n-Roll band from Bay City, Michigan. Their sound, show and stage presence comes from a completely different place.
Fronted by the visually vivacious vocalist Melissa May(Mel) on vocals, violin, harmonica, and guitar, the band delivers an over the top, high-energy rock show. Jekel is on lead guitar, churning out rhythm and lead without a pick (or shoes) and with a unique fingerpickin' style and surf-a-billy sound. Justin provides the dread-locked bass groove, while Terry Poirer brings the thunder on the drums. Together they play it loud and sing it proud.
Their music is dynamic and powerful, cerebral and celebratory at the same time... and creative beyond measure! It grabs the attention of every ear in the room. Their "cover songs" are not typical...yet ThunderChickens renditions still get everyone groovin' and shakin' it. Each twist of originality draws the audience deeper into a collective groove. The originals that the Thunderchickens play are written and played so well that even the first time audience (and soon to be fans) find themselves dancing, listening, and trying to sing along like its their old favorite tune.
It is impossible to see them perform and not join their shimmying, body-shakin' show.
